the endless road

I’m lost and left wandering through the endless streets of my mind

Sleep escapes me every night at the thought of what I might find

What’s hidden under the smiles and hard fronts of a fence I’ve perfected on the outside

I’ve risen above the monstrous waves of the pain that you left behind

Gulped the cold-cutting, fresh air and thought maybe I’ll survive

They say to give it time

I’ve befriended time and soaked inside; eyes closed, drinking a sweet glass of wine

I’m a relentless druggie struggling to forget the high

Flashbacks hit me at the most inconvenient of times

Sorrow overtakes my soul when he looks into my eyes

Because all I see is you

All I remember is you

He’s a sweet, beautiful boy with a kind heart but then, there’s you

You who manipulated me with love that was entirely untrue

You who led me to the apple, just one bite will do

You who sweetly kissed the lips of a loving girl to heal your own wounds

He plants sweet drops of affection on my lips

My heart and soul are a beautiful storm, so I give it to him in small sips

He’s unaware of the scars that lie underneath my rose tattoo

And although his soul is loving and pure, he’ll never be you

It’s a bittersweet world I live, where goodness is staring me in the face but all I see is yesterday leached to its back

Maybe one day we can walk hand and hand, and the past will be burnt to ash
